Little Sugar Creek drains the southwestern corner of McDonald County, Missouri, eventually joining the Elk River at Pineville. Where Big Sugar gets the marquee outfitter operation and bluffs, Little Sugar is the quieter sibling with crystal-clear water, gravel-bar lunches, and some of the best smallmouth bass fishing in the region.
The standard run includes two portages around low-water obstacles, so this is not a hands-off float. But the water itself is consistently described as gin-clear, and the trip ends at the Elk River confluence near Pineville, so you can extend into an Elk float the next day. Note there's no longer a local rental or shuttle outfitter on Little Sugar - plan a self-shuttle.
Like its sister creek, Little Sugar's float window depends on recent rain. Best April through June. By late summer the creek typically drops below floatable for canoes.
Floating Little Sugar Creek from Bella Vista, Bentonville & Rogers.
Little Sugar is one of the closest creek floats to north Benton County, just over the Missouri line near Pineville - only 20 to 35 minutes from most of NWA.
- From Bella Vista (~20 min). The nearest NWA city - a quick hop up Hwy 71 to the Pineville-area put-ins.
- From Bentonville & Rogers (~30-35 min). An easy weekend creek float; bring your own boat and set up a self-shuttle at the Pineville-area accesses.
- From Gravette & Sulphur Springs (~20 min). The closest access from far western Benton County.
- From Noel & Elk River (~15 min). Pair Little Sugar with an Elk River day for a two-creek weekend.
There's no local rental or shuttle service on Little Sugar right now, so come with your own canoe or kayak and spot a car at the take-out. The standard run has two portages, so it's a better fit for kayakers and experienced canoeists than first-timers.

Little Sugar has no local rental or shuttle outfitter right now - Three Rivers Canoe & Campground, the longtime Pineville operator at the Elk River confluence, has closed. Little Sugar is a self-shuttle creek: bring your own canoe or kayak and spot a second vehicle at the take-out before you launch.

Not directly. Use the Elk River outfitter campgrounds (River Ranch, Eagle's Nest, Two Sons) 15 minutes south for RV hookups, or Roaring River State Park 45 minutes east for full hookups.
